Creating The Perfect Wardrobe

| BY Grant Bentley

Anyone who has renovated, updated or built a house will understand the stress that that can come with these decisions. With so many products and colours available on the market today, your vision can became clouded quickly. As this is our first official blog post we thought we should start with the basics and give you some tips and ideas in creating that perfect space for your wardrobe you have envisioned.

1: Budget. Have a budget and stick to it, this will assist in your planning stage and the choices that will be available to you. We are very lucky with the technology we have today and you can create some exceptional pieces with low cost material. Another point is to shop around and ask questions when receiving your quotes, you may be charged a travel fee if you are not in their zone, or there may be extras that are not included such as handles or push open/close hinges.

2: Planning. Wardrobes usually last between 10-15 years depending on the quality of workmanship and material, which means you will be seeing this everyday for a long time, you need to make sure you’re happy with the finished product. The main purpose for your wardrobe is for storage! You will need to make sure your wardrobe has enough drawers, shelves and hanging to suit your individual needs.

3: Quality. When deciding on a company to install your wardrobe you need to be sure the quality of the product is at the highest standard. As in the previous point wardrobes usually last 10-15 years, although they do last longer usually you’ll update about this time. A starting point to compare the quality of the wardrobe is the warranty the company gives you, taking our company as an example, Bentley’s Wardrobes & Kitchens provides a 12 year warranty on our parts and labor, we may charge a little more compared to someone who gives less or no warranty at all but you can be assured this wardrobe will work to your needs in that time and you wont need to seek a warranty claim every few years. Important quality parts to look for in your wardrobe:

  • Melamine/particle board: Bentley’s uses Polytec; which is an Australian based company, Laminex and Formica are also popular quality brands, which we use regularly. When viewing a board side on with no edge tape a quality piece of melamine it tightly formed while a cheaper imported board will break apart and be less dense
  • Track systems: Luckily for the consumer most companies within our industry use the same or very similar track systems. When showing potential customers our track system the main question I get asked is will the door come off the runner? Our doors will not, you can shake the door quiet hard and it will be secured in the track and frame to ensure accidents won’t happen and you have the perfect sliding wardrobe for years to come.
  • Workmanship: Take your time and look at the finishes such as handles, cleanliness and the overall appearance of the wardrobe. If you are pleased with the display model then you have found your perfect wardrobe.
